Re: Gravity Vehicle C

Why didn't you add more weights to the back of your car? We put lead BB's inside the PVC in the back of the car to add weight, but we ran out of room to accommodate more before we could hit the weight limit. Initially we tried to put something else on top of the car to get as close to 1.5kg as poss...

Re: Virginia 2013

I heard Longfellow has Science Olympiad as an elective lol... My friend could be wrong but that's what he told me. I doubt this is true; I know Longfellow has coaches for some events but I think that a Science Olympiad elective is a bit over the top. Your friend may be under the impression that the...

Congrats to everyone (shout out to Vtech) for an awesome state tournament! Special congrats to Longfellow and TJ for making Nats this year; good luck in Ohio.

Re: Virginia 2013

Congrats to everyone, it was a fun tournament. Boom didn't go that well because I failed to make strong connections at the distal end, so one of the tension members sheared off at about 2 kilos. During gravity, one wheel fell off while we were setting up for our 2nd run, so we had to spend extra tim...

Re: Virginia 2013

To add, VA is also limiting the amount of B teams that advance to States this year, so an additional nats slot is pretty much out of the question.

Re: Virginia 2013

Updated the wiki to reflect the results of the Charlottesville Regionals. Anyone going to the Kilmer Regional? (I'll be there) Boomilevers were impounded D: I was a bit confused that they didn't tell us earlier. As per the rules, booms aren't impounded (neither are bridges and towers), but all VA co...

Re: Gravity Vehicle C

So Stingray355 what is your average score Don't know about his average score but the winning score at the Tiger Invite was about 250, if I recall. Are teams adjusting the length of the car to match a certain launch height for a given distance or does everyone have just 1 care for every height? We'r...

Re: Boomilever B/C

I finally got my hands on some 3/32" sq basswood for the tension members, but when I tried to bend it I found that it was rather bendy. Based on my previous designs, I found that the tensions bent a lot, however I did not use basswood for any past t-members. Is this characteristic of basswood o...

Re: State of the Wiki: December 2012

Just curious but why are pages such as Junkyard Challenge 2011 in the "Needs Work" category? It (along with others such as Balloon Race) haven't been events for a few years now, and if they return I'm guessing they won't be similar to the aforementioned pages (especially if it's a building...

Re: Gravity Vehicle C

Does anyone have anyone have any ideas for making sure your ramp is lined up with the dot. Because when we run our car it is always 2-5 cm to the right or left of the dot. So any ideas? According to rule 4b, the center of the Start Line is marked and that mark is perpendicular to the Target point, ...

Re: Gravity Vehicle C

Last year I noticed tons of wooden ramps, and nearly no ramps constructed out of metal. Is there any particular reason for this? Wouldn't it be easier and smoother to just place some sheet metal with supports on the bottom? I'm not sure if I saw the same things as you but we personally (and some ot...

Re: Season 2013 - Site suggestions

Is it possible to create subforums within each event in the Image Gallery? Liked it better that way (it's also more organized).

Speaking of which, were there more uploads when the gallery was being revamped? I've seen some pictures that I'm 99% sure I've never seen before.
