Re: Shock Value B/Circuit Lab C

Just a question here: how similar is the content and difficulty of a nationals level Circuit Lab test related to some of the topics covered on AP Physics E and M? I know obviously each test will have some unique topics and the practical part of the event will be different, but how similar are the t...

Re: Robot Arm C

I still don't quite understand how the lifting of the actual bag works. I would imagine it gets lifted on some sort of high-mounted pulley which the string goes through, but the height for that is limited to a meter. How can the theoretical height be infinite? Edit: nevermind, my bad I didn't see th...

Re: Texas 2013

Yeah, we had planned on that since it didn't say anywhere in the rules that the car had to be timed from a dead stop. But I think it's something that should be cleared up next year. It really favors people with 8-ft tracks. Well section 5.a.iii of the national rules state that "Competitors mus...

Re: Robot Arm C

http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?v=0c9Lu2DwO-I Has anyone seen this in person? It's hard to tell, did the part of the arm that raised the ball previously score at least one point? Impressive! I think the justification for that might be that when the ball is placed in the telescoping arm, the arm scores...

Re: MagLev C

Lots of people have tried it, they're really expensive, and I don't believe it's shown much benefit. If you need more force from the track the first thing to do is switch from strip magnets to the recetangular ceramic magnets. Well we're already using the 100 pack of small rectangular ceramics from...

Re: MagLev C

Has anyone experimented with neodymium track magnets? Not sure if they would be too strong or really hard to mount.

Re: Minnesota 2013

We switched places this year for forestry! But I guess I can contribute it to my being sick and forgetting to put down Witch Hazel's Scientific stuff... Ahhh yeah it was fun vying for first with you guys again this year, sorry to hear that you were sick yesterday :/. My partner and I were also unsu...

Re: MagLev C

So I'm thinking of making an RS latch switch with a simple relay so I can turn on and off our motors easily. I'm pretty sure relays don't count as ICs, but I'm worried they could cause problems at competition because they sorta looks like ICs. Has anyone else tried something similar? I've been also ...

Re: Forestry ID

Yup, correct on the tree and Texas is right too, but it's shade intolerant.

Is this tree shade tolerant?
This tree is the state tree of which state?
