No kidding. We missed going to Nats by one place- and it was only 25 points that separated us from upsetting the reigning champions. Oh well.

Back when I was in 11th grade, we missed by 1 place and 9 points. =(
But then we made it in 12th grade, so it's all good.

Imagine how heartbreaking it must have been for Menomonie High School in Wisconsin to miss nationals by zero points in 2010 - they tied with Madison West and lost the tiebreaker.

But it inspired them to work that much harder last year. You can see it in their Nationals results - 28th place in Augusta 2009 vs. 12th place in Madison 2011. That is a big jump.

My school missed state by 1 place and 1 point. (it was something and 53 to something and 52)
Our coach started us WAY too late. And all the teacher's classes were moved so we were missing Half our stuff

We started practicing in November. November. When our Regionals was in February. And two weeks of Christmas break...which meant the lab was closed...and almost all of our supplies were cut off. For and entire two weeks.

Is that considered late? We think it's lucky if we get our rules in November.
2011 (states/nats):
Team (1/15), RS (1/6), WIDI (1/-)
2012 (State/nats)
Team (1/22), RS (7/11), Thermo (5/-), Chem Lab (-/24), Forensics (4/22), Fermi (5/17) WIDI (-/46)

It was a good career. Looking forward to coaching and writing tests.

Yes, it is. Our coach originally planned for us to start practicing in September, so that's two months' difference. Plus, most of the people started freaking our because of our 13 year winning streak at State at that point, and wanted to keep it up another year (we did, the number is now up to 14 years), and we do pretty well. Our coach is pretty ambitious too, so it was very surprising that we started so late. I looked on some State websites; we have some of the earliest Regionals and States in the entire country. By the time our State was done, about three quarters of the rest of the country hadn't even done Regionals yet, or had had them within a week of our State.

My brother swapped a pirate head for a cheese head... Some teams were offering him whole tables full of stuff for the cheese!

I went up to several people saying "I will give you EVERYTHING I HAVE for that cheese hat".

...there were no takers :(

If you and Luo hadn't run off without me while I talked to robotman I would have gotten you one.

Au contraire, paleonaps, I believe you ran off on us. :P And how do you suppose you would've obtained another cheese hat?

I talked to robotman, you ran off. Of course, we could just blame him for this...
As for another hat, gcruz (lots of numbers) got 5. I could have gotten Koko a hat.
