Technical Problem Solving

Technical Problem Solving

Postby binary010101 on Sun Nov 23, 2008 7:32 pm

Can somebody give me an example of a problem that could be used on a test? Something from a past test would be fine, just so long as I have something to work with.

There are no past tests, this is a new event.

In other words, I'm just as confused as you. And is it just me, or is all the equipment for this event extremely expensive?

I'm confused too, but it's not a new event. And there also two other threads for this event, they are on the lab event section the bottom two, both labeled Tech Trek.

Oh, really? My bad, I guess it's just new here in Michigan. Anyway, thanks I'll check it out. Although any sample test help would be appreciated.

my coach said she saw a sample of it and its like the questions that are on the ACT or SAT where they give you information in a table or graph or something like that and they give you a question. you just use the information they give you and some prior knowledge to answer the questions, well that's what my coach said.

So... gathering and applying information. Great.

It's not even like we know exactly what devices to use... beyond math and practical lab skill, is it even possible to prepare for this event?

The Tech Trek threads both link to a pdf file with the rules, but the link isn't working anymore. Does anyone have a link to the rules?

I would suggest just working on your lab skills like in school for science's. I also tried this

Measur the height of a door by using only a tape measure/meter stick and a protractor

Umm... Hold the meter stick up to the door?

no, using angles, and not measuring the actual height, try and figure out the angle and height

In that case, I'd need a plumb line, too.

By the way, the rules do tell you what sensors and stuff you need to be able to use. While things like photo-gates are going to be expensive, most schools are going to have thermometers and voltage sensors.

How is everyone preparing for this event? My impulse is to learn how to use all of the possible probes and then to review basic science knowledge so as to be ready for basically anything.
