At least it's not *shudders* Saltwater */shudders*.
I think I'm going to do this event next year. My planned events right now are Dynamic Planet, Water Quality and Anatomy.

Also, how much can be known about glaciers? Didn't we just cover them in Earth's Fresh Water?

Why would you shudder at Saltwater (aka Oceanography)? It's way more interesting than Fresh Water or Glaciers.
And glaciers are actually not covered in the Earth's Fresh Water event. They're not a part of the rules sheet even though they are made up of fresh water.

I laughed at myself when I freaked out after I thought Italian Buffet was an event...

From the Pun, it's probably the C Divison equivalent to Heredity (but more in-depth)

I will compare pictures of related to freshwater with pictures related to saltwater

Also, freshwater has AQUIFERS!!!! Saltwater has all these boring wave stuff and disgusting animals that inhabit the water. Seriously, your swimming in the same water as all these SLIMY organisms... gross.

The oceans are the final frontier, though...we know more about the universe than what lurks in the depths of the sea. So, if you think those are bad, who knows what else is out there? :D
I, too, am sad to see Aquifers go, though. No other event is quite like it.

I'm sorry, but first of all, these are extremely biased pictures; you haven't really captured just how cool the oceans are, instead focusing on some rather unappealing details; you can find just as disgusting pictures for freshwater and pictures of saltwater just as beautiful as those that you posted of freshwater.
I'm sure that you're love for freshwater comes from the fact that you have events in them, but, seriously, oceanography can be monumentally more interesting. Trust me. I did freshwater Dynamic Planet last year (regionals, states, and nationals); and it is not nearly as interesting as oceanography. There are simply so much more to oceanography (as expected; they kinda cover 97% of the Earth's water), from more interesting physical phenomena (waves, tides, eddies, currents, tsunamies, turbidity currents, etc. as opposed to downcutting, waterfall recession, and other freshwater phenomena) to more interesting life (think about all of the types of saltwater fish vs. the types of freshwater fish; there really is no comparison in terms of how many more types of saltwater fish there are.) and more. If you are fortunate enough to do Oceanography as a Science Olympiad event, and attack the event as enthusiastically as you have done with Freshwater Dynamic Planet, I'm sure that you will come to the same conclusion.
Before you go and assert that one thing is definitely better than another, it would do you good to know a significant amount about both, not just the one you support.

Lol, I kind of meant it as a joke but I see your point. Saltwater will be in rotation during my 11th and 12th grade years, and I may consider trying it.

I don't see why yall are all so against glaciers. Glaciers are amazing! There are cirques, aretes, eskers, drumlins.... Amazing stuff. I bet there will also be a lot of memorizing locations of glaciers involved. It sounds fun!

It looks like Protein will be out, but I was expecting that for awhile because a CBM journal article from last year said that the event won't be offered in 2013 and 2014. A shame, since I wanted to do it next year and finally get that elusive gold medal at states (missed it by only 0.75 points).

Helicopter Egg Drop? Is this a new event or is it an old one being brought back in? I've never heard of it.

The issue with Dynamic Planet: I didn't about it until a month before Regionals this year. I made 1-2sided notesheet. Went to competition, and got 2nd @ Regionals. At State, I was more prepared, (still not much) and got 10th. Although Dynamic Planet did irk me, I will probably do it again...Glaciers and all

Does anyone what month the official rules for each event are published each year? My coaches say that they're out in mid-October (which means we can't start practice earlier), but another post in this thread says that they're out in mid to late August.
