Middle School Splitting

Postby liutony66 on Wed Apr 18, 2012 9:49 pm

So, currently myself and most of my teamates are in 8th grade, heading into high school and division C next year.

However, our school has a fairly wierd thing in which the middle school splits between two high schools. This has put us in a fairly difficult situation, as we have become accustomed to working together and hope to form a cross-high school/district team.

So essentially I have three questions. Has this happened to anybody else before? What did you do about it? (If you did anything) Is it even possible to do a cross high school/district team?

Thanks! :D

It depends, it is a Science Olympiad policy that all kids must come from the same school unless two public schools have a combined enrollment of 300, in which case they may create a joint team. However, if you so wished you could still hold joint practices and assist each other in preparing, but you must enter two different teams into competitions unless the two schools combined have a low enough enrollment.

It does depend. The coach can get in trouble for any shady behavior, although I have known of exceptions. Do both high schools have a team? If so, you may be out of luck. If only one high school has a team, you could probably get by with busing over there from an activity bus or whatever as long as the schools do that sort of thing. My guess is they do. Granted, think long term. In two years, you may want a separate team for YOUR high school.

I see. Well, our current middle school team was established this year and is the first scioly team in the district, so no, there are not teams at the high schools.

Are you implying that if they are bused over to our high school that they could be counted as "students" at the school and therefore would be eligible to be on the team?
