Ornithology B/C

That's their way of relating this to real life, I suppose. If it were birds we'll never see, we wouldn't be able to take it to heart.

i completely agree! i got to regionals and my partner and I had not really studied, but i go birding with my dad. the only ones i was sure about were ones i've seen... like scarlet tanager and belted kingfisher. the rest we guessed... but still managed second.

I've gotten so into birds as a result of this event! It's relevant, and methodical. They outline what you need to know in the rules.... good. Very good.

Yup, I went about 2 days ago. I go to a 'violin institute' at Ithaca College every summer, and for the past few years I've dropped by Cornell to see the lab. It's a really great place. The building itself is really neat — there's the Macaulay Library, plus a research library with all kinds of books, papers, and journals. (It was closed when I got there this year).

There's also a short trail near the lab where you can almost always see and hear lots of birds, plus tons of bird feeders outside of giant windows right in the entrance hall. They have huge binoculars set up which you can use for as long as you want. And the gift shop, where I got the hat.

Seriously though, I really recommend going for any ornithology person. Especially if you're close (NY or PA), it's something not to miss.

I have no idea. I probably live a good 6 hours away, so probably drive up, check into a hotel or something, then visit and drive home the next day. How long do you think I should spend, amerikestrel? Is there a lot of stuff for visitors to do?

Sorry but the double post, but I have an announcement.
My dad keeps the garage door open most of the time. I saw a Gray Catbird fly in once, but it got scared by the sound in made when it landed on some scrap metal. I told my dad to keep it shut, but he didn't listen.
So today he was watering some plants and heard the sound of an animal scraping. On the steps leading down to my garage, there is a window. He looked up, and saw the silhouette of a bird in the window. On the steps leading down to my garage, there is a window. The bird had flown in (presumably to get at the dead insects that are around the window) and gotten lost. It was a gray catbird.
