-Nothing\'s gonna get deleted. We\'re gonna be like three little Fonzies here. And what\'s Fonzie like? Come on, what\'s Fonzie like?
-Cool?
-Correctamundo. And that\'s what we\'re gonna be. We\'re gonna be cool. Now, I\'m gonna count to three, and when I count three, you let go of your mouse, and back away from the keyboard. But when you do it, you do it cool. Ready? One... two... three.

Anybody think the rules will change much for this year?

I doubt it. If anything the list may change slightly, but I don't think they would change the event very much. I hope they add binders, but it's very unlikely.

A good way to study for ornithology is to read the wikipedia article on each bird. A better way to study is to write the wikipedia article on each bird.

Some of the Wikipedia articles on lesser known birds are... lacking. :P I like the "exposure" way of studying, though, just trying to amass as much information as possible and reading about birds wherever you can find them. Some of the facts have got to stick, though my partner is much better at this than I am.

Binders would be heavenly, and I'd like to see more of an emphasis on calls next year.

I'm hoping to see less emphasis on calls. At the very least, they should be more specific in what they want. For instance, should we know the call only, or the song only, or all of them.... that needs to be fixed.

If my memory's right, at states there were 20-something stations, and 3 of them were bird calls. :( (not to mention the lolbluebird mistake)

Yeah, the manual should have been more specific, though it seems like they were focusing more or less on songs.

I would loooove to see less emphasis on calls. my partner and i did well at everything else, but we couldn't get the calls down. But binders would be awesome. i hope they have a little more info in the manual. for WI state competition, we had to look at tissue samples under microscopes. one of them was telling whether the tissue was male or female. Ugh. But, we still got 6th place. :)

Binders would be amazing but highly unlikely. I'm hoping to see more calls on tests. I spent a long time trying to learn all of them but there were only 2 or 3 on the actual tests. I was really happy to see a whole section of calls at reginals.

Does anyone know when the rules are coming out?

Binders would be interesting, though I do kind of like the event the way it is. The specimen on the list shouldn't change much, but I have to admit that the calls did give me (or actually my poor partner) a bit of a headache. There weren't many calls on the test though, so it was okay. I would probably use a binder to study, but the lack of binder during competition kind of makes it more challenging. But I really don't want to start that debate right now so I'm going to drop that subject.

Rules probably won't change and they come out. Eh... my memory isn't serving me well... September/October? The list comes out much earlier though... late August. Last year it came out a day before the Fossils list I believe...

True that. :)

Soobsession: The 2011 manual is up for ordering right now and ships in late August, so at the earliest we'll be getting them when September starts.
